About Kuthampully Weaving Cluster:
Kuthampully, around 50 km from Thrissur district, is a handloom village with several families dedicated and passionately involved in weaving beautiful Kerala sarees, set & mundu, mundu/dhotis. Around 500 years ago, Cochin Maharaja brought Kannada-speaking weavers from Mysore to have clothes woven for the erstwhile dynasty of Cochin. Still, the families there follow their ancestors and are involved in weaving. For its unique making, Kuthampully sarees and mundu have been assigned with GI Tag.
