Chiffon Georgette is a fabric known for its unadulterated quality of fabric. Chiffon Georgette is a lightweight plain-woven fabric with mesh like weave that gives it a transparent appearance. The word Chiffon has a French origin which means a ‘cloth’. It is primarily made from cotton, silk or synthetic fibers like nylon, rayon and polyester. It makes use of the Phekwa technique which is an elaborate and laborious hand weaving technique used to incorporate motifs on the fabric. Each motif is woven separately as opposed to other Banarasi handloom sarees. Using this technique, many different motifs of different sizes, colours and textures can be woven on the same sari, which is quite difficult to do otherwise. Though this is a time consuming process with more effort made on handloom, the end result is a really perfect saree that stands out in many aspects.
