Kuthampully, around 50 km from Thrissur district, is a handloom village with several families dedicated and passionately involved in weaving beautiful Kerala Sarees, Set & Mundu, Mundus & dhotis. Around 500 years ago, Cochin Maharaja brought Kannada-speaking weavers from Mysore for weaving clothes for the erstwhile dynasty of Cochin. Still, the families there follow their ancestors and are involved in weaving. For its unique making, Kuthampully Sarees and Mundus have been assigned with GI Tag. It is refreshing and inspiring to watch so many people work together and help each other for the greater good.
