Hand- woven Maheshwari Sarees make use of a hand weaving technique preserved since the 5th century AD. There is an interesting legend relating to these sarees. The Maratha Queen Ahilyabayi Holkar had assigned artisans and weavers from Malwa and Surat to design these special sarees. A peep into history reveals the fact that these sarees were worn by women in court and gifted to royal guests.
